Geological Specifications

Minerals: Chalcedony with Druzy Quartz & Apophyllite

Crystal Systems:
• Chalcedony – Trigonal (cryptocrystalline quartz)
• Apophyllite – Tetragonal

Hardness:
• Chalcedony – 6.5 – 7
• Apophyllite – 4.5 – 5

Chalcedony is a microcrystalline form of quartz that commonly forms inside cavities within volcanic rock. Over time, silica-rich fluids coat these cavities with layers of chalcedony and fine druzy quartz crystals.

“Sugar druzy” refers to a dense coating of extremely small sparkling quartz crystals that resemble granulated sugar. These surfaces often provide the base for additional minerals such as Apophyllite to crystallise.

India’s volcanic basalt deposits are well known for producing beautiful combinations of chalcedony, druzy quartz and zeolite minerals like Apophyllite.
