This impressive Amethyst Cave formed over millions of years within a volcanic cavity, where successive layers of silica-rich fluids gradually deposited microcrystalline quartz, creating the striking bands of agate that frame the crystal-filled interior.

As the cavity continued to develop, larger quartz crystals grew inward from the walls. Trace amounts of iron within the quartz, combined with natural irradiation over geological time, produced the rich violet colouring that distinguishes amethyst.
