Geological Specifications

Minerals: Thomsonite & Mesolite
Mineral Group: Zeolite Group

Crystal Systems:
• Thomsonite – Orthorhombic
• Mesolite – Monoclinic

Hardness:
• Thomsonite – 5 – 5.5
• Mesolite – 5

Thomsonite and Mesolite are both members of the zeolite mineral family and commonly occur together in cavities within volcanic basalt rock.

These minerals form when mineral-rich fluids circulate through gas bubbles trapped in cooling lava. Over time, the dissolved minerals crystallise inside these cavities, producing the striking crystal clusters found in many Indian zeolite deposits.

The Deccan Traps region of India is particularly famous for producing beautiful combinations of zeolite minerals including Thomsonite, Mesolite, Stilbite, and Apophyllite.
