These Optical Calcite spheres, also known as Iceland Spar, display beautiful internal clarity with natural striations and reflective planes throughout.

Polished into smooth spheres, each piece allows light to pass through its structure, creating depth, subtle internal rainbows and the characteristic double refraction effect that optical calcite is known for.

Available in three individually photographed pieces:

Optical calcite is a transparent variety of calcium carbonate known for its strong birefringence (double refraction). When light passes through the crystal, it splits into two rays, creating a doubling effect.

Natural internal fractures, veils and inclusions are part of its geological character.
