Green Maligano Jasper is a relatively recent discovery from the Indonesian island of Sulawesi and is prized for its extraordinary orbicular patterns, brecciated structures and soft natural colour palette. Despite its common trade name, it is technically a silicified breccia composed primarily of microcrystalline quartz with inclusions of altered volcanic material and other mineral-rich fragments.
Its distinctive circular and landscape-like patterns formed as fractured volcanic rock became naturally cemented together by silica-rich fluids before being polished to reveal the intricate internal structures. The gentle greens, creams and warm golden tones reflect varying mineral inclusions and stages of geological alteration.
