Mineral: Fluorite
Habit: Cubic
Locality: Pakistan
This striking specimen features exceptionally dark black fluorite with sharp, well-defined cubic crystal growth. Although it appears almost jet black at first glance, the crystals reveal rich smoky brown to deep violet translucency when viewed in strong light, a characteristic that makes black fluorite one of the most captivating and unusual colour varieties.
The specimen is composed of intergrown cubes with naturally stepped faces and crisp geometric edges, creating dramatic architectural formations. Several highly reflective crystal faces provide brilliant mirror-like flashes, beautifully contrasting with the darker satin lustre of the surrounding cubes.
Black fluorite from Pakistan is considerably less common than the green and purple material for which the country is best known, making well-crystallised examples like this highly desirable among fluorite collectors.
